BIRCH BUTTON UP x SEW A LITTLE SEAM | v2 + A GIVEAWAY!
I'm back today sharing another version of my current favorite pattern, the new Birch Button Up by Sew A Little Seam!
As I mentioned in my previous post about the button up I sewed up for Ren, the Birch has nearly infinite options to create your perfect shirt. And while its a great make for boys, its also adorable on girls as well!
This sleeveless tie version actually came to be because a creative tester gave it a try with the original Birch pattern, and the designer, Kelly, loved it so much she added it to the design! And I just love that. How cool is it that this pattern is a collaborative effort? And I love how much Kelly listened to everyone's input, which not only yielded a fun customization, but a great fitting pattern as well.
While this pattern sews up so nicely in a medium weight fabric like the yarn dyed linen blend I used for Ren's, I thought I'd also give it a try in some cotton voile. The result was a soft yet still structured button up that was perfect for baby Mars. I'm even a little curious how it would turn out in some breezy double gauze!
Just like the sleeved button up, the sleeveless tie version is constructed with the same care and detail that makes for one gorgeous garment inside and out. The armscye is finished with a bias binding which allows for another opportunity to customize with contrast fabric.
I went with contrasting buttons for this version but snaps would be a great option too, especially for wiggly babes and tots for whom fast dressing is essential. You could even do pearl snaps for more of a western style if that's your jam.
As if I didn't already love the Birch shirt enough, this feminine style really gives this pattern even more mileage and I am so excited to have a perfect button up for both Mars and Ren. I can't wait to make another for Mars--maybe a cute chambray with longer sleeves and another tie front. So fun!
And don't forget! To celebrate this amazing pattern, I'm giving away one copy of the new Birch button up! Head to my Instagram and leave a comment on the giveaway post telling me how you'd customize your perfect Birch, and I'll pick one lucky winner at random on July 31st!
