Lana Top + Dress x Sansahash

This review is my honest opinion of a pattern I received free of charge as a pattern tester for Sansahash.

Hello and happy belated Thanksgiving!
Anyone else still coasting on leftover pie for every meal this weekend? Ain't a bad way to live!

Now that we've moved from California back to the east coast we're spending the holiday weekend with family in Virginia, and its been the best. The kids are loving lots of time with grandparents and aunts + uncles! I've also gotten back to sewing after our cross country move and the first make in the queue was a tester for the Lana Top + Dress by Sansahash.

Sansahash is a newer PDF pattern company designing creative takes on classic silhouettes. The Lana is a simple knit dress with a circle skirt, but the exposed ruffle finish and tie back really make it special.

I'm a sucker for a ballet or scoop back, but sometimes its a risk because the bodice is prone to slipping off those narrow baby shoulders. The Lana features a scoop back with ties so you get the feel of the scoop back but keep it functional and wearable for active little ones. I want to make my next one without the ties and see how that holds up as well.

The Lana also features an exposed ruffle along the hem, finished with a raw edge or a rolled hem. Now, this detail probably takes as long to gather and attach as sewing the whole rest of the pattern, but the payoff is worth it. I love the look of the ruffle topstitched to the circle skirt and the raw edges help make up for the effort put in to the ruffle. If you like the look but aren't ready to commit to gathering a ruffle for a dress length circle skirt, make like me and just do the top version--less ruffle to ruffle! Lana also has the option for a simple, gathered, ruffle-less skirt designed to appeal to older girls. Did I mention that this pattern has a size range of 6 months to 12 years? Talk about getting some good life out of your pattern!

I chose to do a long sleeve since we're experiencing cold weather for the first time in four years and I realized Mars only has short sleeve tops, but the pattern has a 3/4 length sleeve, sleeveless, and gathered short sleeve as well. The overall look can also change with fabric choice. This version is a 95/5 cotton jersey which made for a comfy top with a slightly fuller or structured skirt. I also made one out of a thicker rayon spandex which had lovely drape. Other testers used stretch velvet, quilted knit, brushed poly....I bet a stretch french terry would be so stinkin' cute too!

Lana is on sale now through Monday 27 November (midnight MST) for only $6, and if you want to give some other Sansahash patterns a try everything else is 40% off through Monday as well. Now that is one smokin' Black Friday deal! I know I'm eying the Nilah dress too--love that curved hem! No codes needed, just hop over to Sansahash and grab the Lana Top + Dress and see whats up with this up and coming pattern company!
